Shahed Kayes is a teacher, poet and human rights activist. Shahed initiated a movement for the education of non- privileged children of river-gipsy, cobbler, fisher-folk, dalit, and indigenous communities in rural Bangladesh. He has continued to organize the ‘Save Mayadip’ movement to aid twelve thousand islanders fighting against illegal sand mining on the Meghna River. He serves as Chief Advisor to the ‘Illegal Sand Extraction Prevention Committee at Myadip-Nunertek islands’.
