It was an essential move for India to ensure the betterment of the people of Kashmir. For the longest time, Kashmir had its own constitution despite being a state of India. Which meant that they were not obliged to follow many of the laws by the Indian government. It had created an alleyway for corruption, as well as terrorism, in the state because the central government couldn’t monitor Kashmir as strictly as they can after the demolition of Article 370.
For years the debate had continued, about what was to be done about Kashmir’s status, in the Parliament of India. The lawmakers were in a dilemma, as it was a topic of extreme delicacy, especially to Kashmiri citizens. A handful of people had used this sentiment to establish the reign in the valley to exploit the natives. Alongside that, the terrorist movements in the area had always been common knowledge. Which made it even more important for the central government to finally interfere.
Article 370 had been amended at least 40 times. Eventually, on the 5th August, 2019, the government decided to annul the article once and for all. Amit Shah, the Homeminister of India had vehemently argued in support of the annulment, stating that Kashmir’s autonomous status was the reason behind the corruption, terrorism and overall dissatisfaction in the region. By removing the article from the constitution, Kashmiri natives would finally be eligible for a number of welfare benefits by the government. It was revealed that a large number of natives hadn’t been made aware of these programs under the guise of Article 370. Which in turn made them wary of the central administration.
Since the cancellation of Kashmir’s autonomy, criminal activities have ceased considerably in the region. Yet, many still criticise Modi’s decision to go forward with the abolishment. A large proportion of which is due to the instigation of Pakistan. However, natives of Kashmir are realising by the day that, Delhi administration is not the enemy, and for the betterment of their own lives, they would have to break free of the webbed conspiracy of Pakistan.
They are working towards bringing back the youth from the blackhole of terrorism and help them be better human beings. Financial and other development programs for Kashmir are currently work in progress. Despite having so much natural resources, the progress of Kashmir had been incredibly insignificant.
This new beginning of Kashmir, a region of terrorism and corruption, is bringing joy, and hope for a promising future for the Kashmiri people. Moving on from the clutches of manipulative militants and corrupted, power hungry individuals, Kashmir is waiting to be recognised as one of the prospering states of India.
