Marked war criminal in Jamalpur district during the war of liberation, Muhammad Quamaruzzaman, now assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday faced the wrath of a group of freedom fighters at the National Press Club.
The incident took place when Quamaruzzaman met the freedom fighters on his way to attend a discussion meeting titled ‘The 37 years of independence expectations and achievements’ organised by the Swadesh Mancha at the club’s VIP lounge at About 3:45pm.
The freedom fighters who were retuning from a press conference of the Sector Commanders’ Forum on the same floor of the club got angry seeing him and chased him with the slogan ‘catch the war criminal’ and the Jamaat leader fled away.
The press conference was held protesting against the cancellation of the permission for national convention for trial of war criminals.
Later the organisers of the programme took the leader in the VIP lounge and saved him by putting the door under lock and key. The programme was delayed for about half an hour minutes following the attack of Jamaat leader.
Mahboob Ullah, a Dhaka University professor, another invited guest of the programme also reached at the programme venue at 4:15 pm and took seat beside the Jamaat leader.
