Visiting World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim on Sunday said he along with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres commended Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the generosity Bangladesh has shown by hosting Rohingyas.
“By hosting the #Rohingya, Bangladesh has done a great service for the world,” he says in one of the tweets minutes after his day’s programmes in the city got over.
The World Bank President said they will support this effort any way they can.
He also said they will continue to support Bangladesh’s progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with record lending of more than $3.5 billion this year.
Kim said Bangladesh cut poverty in half between 1991 and 2016 and in the process created more opportunities for its people.
He also told Finance Minister AMA Muhith that they are to express their gratitude to the people and the government of Bangladesh for their generosity toward the Rohingya.
Earlier, the UN and WB chiefs met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and discussed various issues with special focus on Rohingya issue.
They attended an event on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) hosted by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Danish Ambassador in Dhaka Mikael H Winther twitted, “Big questions on SDG challenges addressed by World Bank President including on inequality, youth unemployment and education at conference today (Sunday).”
