The apparently rival Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jatiyatbadi Chhatra Dal have got untied against the ultra rightist Islami Chhata Shibir at the Jagannath University in the city’s old part.
Jagannath University, one of the newest public universities popularly known as Jagannath College as per its previous status, seemed to be a safe heaven for the student activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami that actively opposed the war of liberation.
Leaders and activist of both Chhatra League and Chhatra Dal got united Saturday and roamed around the campus in search of Shibir people. Two of the Shibirites have been beaten up by the angry students.
The unity followed a strong campaign by Shibir ahead of its conference and they distributed leaflets of the programme that irked the pro-liberation students.
The university unit Chhatra League general secretary Gazi Abu Sayeed and Chhatra Dal’s general secretary Anisur Rahman led the students in the manhunt against Shibir.
They searched each department of the university found two of the Shibir-men at the Shaheed Minar and gave a good bashing. Police rescued them from the students’ wrath.
