Amarblog.com received an order through email in the morning of March 2013 from Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (www.btrc.gov.bd). Signed by the Assistant Director, this order instructs Amarblog to cancel the accounts of a few bloggers and to send their personal information- IP address, location, email address, cell phone number and real name in next 24 hours to BTRC. In the order, the Assistant Director has not mentioned the regulations or the court order under which this instruction has been given.
Dear bloggers, Amarblog is committed from the beginning to protect the right of freedom of speech in Bangla in the web. To sustain this commitment Amarblog was, is and will be determined always. From that perspective of commitment, Amarblog has denounced the order of BTRC. Amarblog will not cancel any blog by any blogger; in accordance with International Privacy Law, Amarblog will not reveal the IP address, location, email address, cell number or real name of any blogger to anyone.
Dear bloggers, we have contacted more than one renowned lawyers of the country in this regard, we are looking into the laws under which BTRC is asking for the personal details of the bloggers and the archived copies of their writings. We will challenge legally any interference that falls outside the jurisdiction of public administration.
Dear Bloggers, we are informed about the consequences of the declination of the order. We know that BTRC will be authoritarian to this blog which is the last resort of freedom of thought in the web. Yet, for the sake of freedom of thought, we have taken this decision, because Amarblog is not a corporate blog, it is not run for profit; it is not the media cell of any political party or does not abide by their rules. Amarblog is your blog, everyone’s blog, above all, a blog for freedom of thought. From this standpoint, Amarblog is denouncing any order from BTRC. We are determined to protect the right of freedom of speech in world wide web and we are ready to sacrifice for it and face the consequences.
Let freedom of thought prevail. Plague on any government, political or corporate media cell that tries to control the blogs.
