[Dhaka Correspondent] Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is soon likely to notify 11 more major corruption suspects, including former adviser to caretaker government Justice Fazlul Haque, to submit their wealth statements.
ACC earlier notified 143 corruption suspects, including detained former prime ministers Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia, to submit their wealth statements, and everyone did so except Kazi Moharraf Hossain, a CBA leader and BNP member in Kushtia.
ACC, in early October, announced the names of 35 corruption suspects and started primary inquiries on 11 of them on October 23.
“Reports of the primary inquiry on 11 corruption suspects have been completed and the next course of action depends on the progress of the inquiry,” ACC director Hanif Iqbal told newsmen Monday.
The list includes Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka, Awami League presidium members Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and Tofail Ahmed, former BNP state minister Quamrul Islam, former finance minister Saifur Rahman’s son Shafiur Rahman Babu, former AL lawmaker AKM Rahmatullah, former BRTC chairman Taimur Alam Khandakar, former communications secretary Rezaul Hayat, deputy secretary Shamsul Alam, and RAJUK’s CBA president Kazi Amir Khasru.
They will be notified to submit their wealth statements if the preliminary inquiries by ACC investigation teams and the army-led anti-corruption task forces find them owning assets beyond their known sources of income, a senior official of the ACC said.
According to ACC sources, its inquiry teams and the army-led anti-corruption task forces are also carrying out inquiries about the remaining 24 suspects who include include AL presidium member Kazi Zafarullah, Khulna City Corporation mayor and BNP leader Sheikh Tayebur Rahman, former BNP lawmaker and chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Shahidul Haq Jamal, Liberal Democratic Party leader and former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s primary and mass education adviser Jahanara Begum, former BNP state minister AKM Mosharraf Hossain, former BNP deputy minister Asadul Habib Dulu, former BNP lawmakers Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul, Ilyas Ali, Fazlul Haque Milon, Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Professor Joinal Abedin and Dewan Salahuddin, former Jatiya Party lawmaker Moshiur Rahman Ranga, former law secretary Alauddin Sardar, former AL state minister KM Jahangir, former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s APS-2 Abdul Matin, Proshika chairman Kazi Faruque Ahmed, former managing director of Essential Drugs Company Harun al Rashid, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s APS Alauddin Nasim (deputy secretary), former BCL presidents Ishaq Ali Khan Panna and Enamul Haque Shamim, former chairman of Srimangal municipality Mohsin Miah, Rajshahi city BNP general secretary Shish Mohammad and former managing director of Teletalk M Obaidullah.
