We have and always had a tendency of being emotional on issues that are crucial to our lives. There was a need for a cleanup of our political establishment and also building the institutions that are tantamount to having a rule of law and state run on democratic principles. CTG and the Army brass had taken on those tasks at a very crucial moment in the history of Bangladesh. They had received the due support from the mass and the international community, in general. The process started with a big bang and was seen as something positive for the country.

CTG, however, with the lack of proper advise, committed 3 blunders that have somehow affected their image as a neutral power broker cleaning up the mess for a smooth transition to the democratic roots of the country. I do not need to mention in details of the blunders but all can understad what I am referring to. Fisrt, the standoff with the students that could have been easily avoided. Second, lack of control on the spiraling prices of the basic needs in the country and the third, inappropriate neutralization of the two main political leaders of the country.

The question remains,as to whether an election would bring any ventilation of the status-quo. We can not expect changes by doing the things the same way that got us into mess to begin with. The answer is a thumping "NO". There has to be four things happening before Bangladesh goes into the next election and those are:

Restoration of the Historical facts untwisted.
Setting an Identity for the Nation
Instituting the fabricks of the Democratic Institutions
Setting up the sound financial structures for the nation.

Without those things in place, an election would be a mere getting back to the status-quo..

The election as per original schedule of Januray 2006 could create civil war.To the extent of of cancelling that scedule and putting halt to politics of confrontation was acceptable. The initial activities ogFCTG was more or less acceptable.Separation of Judiciary from administration, revamping election commission , Anti Corruption commission,Public Service Commission was hailed by all.But government took too much time in completing voter list and completing other election issues. The emmergency continued for unnecessarily long time. Several cases have been lodged to maligned politics and politicians. While every one supports punishment of genuinely corrupt persons but bringing charges against most of the politicians is definitely motivated. The proponents of CTG tried to use some politicians to break unity of major political parties. When they failed to motivate party cadre they satrted bringing allegations against the previously blesed section of politicians. Perhaps some strong force like to make Bangladesh free from politics and politicians.
This non political goverment has failed to control market price of all esentials , improve energy supply, control corruption. The nation is heading towrads anarchy and severe crisis. The dialogue with parties will definitely fail. If that happens election process will be open to question. This government does not bones to stave off mass upsurge. So future is very uncertain for Bangladesh.
