Coordinator: Tofail wants to quit

[Dhaka Correspondent] Awami League presidium member Tofail Ahmed, assignee of the task to negotiate a common stand with the components of the AL-led alliance, Saturday said he wanted to relinquish the responsibility following inclusion of his name in the list of corruption suspects. In the absence of the alliance coordinator, Abdul Jalil, now detained in jail, the AL assigned Tofail to negotiate with the allies identical proposals to be placed before the Election Commission for electoral reforms.

“It may not be logical for me to continue to discharge the responsibilities as a coordinator of the 14-party alliance as my name has been included in the list prepared by the Anti-Corruption Commission,” Tofail told newsmen before a meeting between the AL and Workers Party at the residence of the acting AL president, Zillur Rahman.

Tofail said that he had served the country as a minister, lawmaker and student leader in the past, “I may have made some mistakes in my long political career
